Northwest's Theatre Department presents Stephen Schwartz's Godspell

In its second Mainstage production of the fall trimester, Theatre Northwest will present "Godspell" Thursday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, Nov. 12, in the Performing Arts Center's Mary Lynn Auditorium. Admission is $7, and curtain times are 7:30 p.m. except for the 2 p.m. Sunday matinée.

Amanda Petefish-Schrag, assistant professor of theatre, will direct the hit Broadway musical, which is based on the Gospel of St. Matthew. The play was written by John-Michael Tebelak with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

Godspell opened in 1971 and became one of the longest-running off-Broadway musicals in theatre history before moving to Broadway in 1976. It ended its run in fall 1977 after a total of more than 2,600 performances. A film version was released in 1973, and the show's signature song, "Day By Day" reached No. 13 on the "Billboard" pop singles chart in 1972.

Tickets for all Mainstage productions cost $7. Children age 10 and under are admitted free. Second Stage tickets cost $5. All curtain times are 7:30 p.m. except Sunday productions, which begin at 2 p.m. Tickets are available on show nights at the Mary Lynn box office.
